What leaves your machine, and what never does
A privacy promise is only worth something if you can verify it. Here is the complete list, with no grey areas — including what necessarily goes over the network.
Your content stays with you
MySpaceCube is not an online service with an app in front of it. It is software installed on your machine, writing to a database sitting on your own disk. We receive no copy of it, whole or partial, and we have no technical means of reaching it.
- Budgets, transactions, recipes, shopping lists, notes, contacts, calendars, family tree, health logs: all written locally.
- Syncing between your devices runs over your own WiFi network, device to device. Nothing passes through an intermediate server.
- The application works offline. Cut the internet: your modules keep working normally.
What goes over the network, and why
Some functions cannot be local: an account, a subscription and a licence require a server. Rather than gloss over it, here is precisely what is sent, to whom, and what you can switch off.
| What is sent | To whom | Why | Optional |
|---|---|---|---|
| Email address, username, encrypted password | Our servers | Create and manage your member account | Required |
| Licence key and device identifier | Our servers | Check that your licence is active and count the devices it covers | Required |
| Installed version and update channel | Our servers | Offer you updates and current translations | Required |
| The content you choose to publish | Our servers | Share an item with other members — only on your explicit action | Yes |
| Coordinates of the place shown | open-meteo.com | Show the weather for the place you picked | Yes |
| The title you search for | TMDB, IGDB, Open Food Facts | Find the record of a film, game or product you are adding | Yes |
| Error message and stack trace on a crash | Our incident tracking tool | Fix failures we cannot reproduce ourselves | Yes |
| Payment details | Stripe | Collect the subscription — we never store your card | Required |
None of these requests carries the content of your modules. A licence check sends a key and a device identifier, not your recipes or your bank accounts.
Check for yourself
We would rather make a claim you can test than a promise you would have to believe. Nothing written above requires trusting us.
- Install an outbound firewall — Little Snitch or LuLu on macOS, GlassWire or OpenSnitch elsewhere — and watch the connections the application opens. They should match the table above, and nothing else.
- Cut your internet connection and use the application. Everything local should keep working, undegraded.
- If you spot a connection this table does not mention, write to privacy@myspacecube.com: it is either a mistake on our side or an omission on this page, and both matter to us.
What we will not do
You pay for a product and for your anonymity — not to become the product.
The legal detail of how your account data is processed is in the privacy policy.
